In democracy, every citizen has a vote to elect its government officials. Voting is one way how citizens exert their power. A single vote may feel insignificant in an election, but collectively, these votes influence the state. Similarly to political voting, every purchase maybe insignificant, but collectively, these purchasing choices shift markets, policies, and cultural norms. Purchases are more than transactions - they are a declaration of values. With every item we buy, we cast a vote for the world we want to live in. Just like voting for elections, peacefully and silently shaping the future. In everyday life, many people might be concerned about environmental issues, but not all of them place great importance on the influence they hold through their consumption choices. People may forget about their power as consumers.

Cultural Ballot is a ballot paper with two options on it: consumerism and environmentalism. It is printed out to the consumer after every purchase together with the receipt. The cultural Ballot serves as a reminder for people that casting votes not just happening during political elections every few years, but in everyday life, through buying things. Emphasizing the responsibilities on the governments is even though not wrong, but it could also be used as a convenient excuse for inaction as individual consumers. Achieving a sustainable future simply by voting for the right party during elections is very unlikely to happen. Consumers also have responsibilities and shopping is an act of agency. In addition, the combination with the receipt could help consumers reflect on their particular purchases.
